Spirometry

Spirometry (meaning the measure of the breath) is a common pulmonary function test (PFT). It measures lung function, volume, speed, and flow of air that can be inhaled and exhaled. In addition, it is an important tool for assessing conditions such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, and COPD. While in industrial health programs, it is used to evaluate the baseline breathing efficacy of workers who may be exposed to substances harmful to the lungs. Furthermore, PFTs goes hand in hand with Chest x-rays, and mask fit tests. We also recommend a fitness to work test be done to ensure that your employees are properly fit to complete the work that they are assigned.

Mask Fit Testing

Because the Alberta OH&S code requires that mask fit testing be done for workers exposed to hazardous substances such as silica, coal dust and asbestos etc, our quantitative mask fit testing techniques ensure your workers are safe and protected from hazardous vapors and gasses. At SCS, our technicians utilize the “Gold Standard of Fit Testing” with the OHD Quantifit machine. Most noteworthy, using controlled negative pressure ensures that the seal achieved is one of a high passing grade. CSA Standards state to retest your employees at least every two years, but at SCS, we highly recommend at least once a year per mask to ensure the highest safety standards possible. As a result, our trained technicians can assist your organization in making sure that all employees are properly fit tested.

We have a number of masks that we can use to conduct fit testing here at SCS:
