Summary

This is a classroom-based half-day SCS-certified course in WHMIS/GHS. It is available from SCS when requested to suit your schedule, with a minimum of 5 student enrollments required. Note that if you prefer learning online, this course is available in our e-learning list as well.

If you are a worker in Canada who could be exposed to hazardous chemicals in the worksite, you must be trained in WHMIS, the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS). And with the new United Nations Globally Harmonized System (GHS), WHMIS training now extends to this international standard.

Course Content

With this training, chemical hazards will be documented, controlled, and explained to you as the worker. And remember, personal protective equipment (PPE) is the LAST step in protection for workers, not the first!

Course topics include the following:

  • Purpose of WHMIS
  • Hazard groups
  • Symbols
  • Safety data sheets
  • Labels
  • PPE
  • Emergencies
  • Special situations

Prerequisites and PPE

You don’t need to complete any other courses or have any prior experience to enroll in this course. You also don’t need to bring along any personal protective equipment (PPE).

Note: All courses require you to have government-issued photo ID.
