Summary

This is a classroom-based five-hour SCS-certified course in two-way radio communications. It is available from SCS when requested to suit your schedule, with a minimum of 5 student enrollments required.

Using two-way radios as part of your work requires some special skills and knowledge to make sure you are communicating effectively. In this course, you will learn basic radio operation, communication skills, and emergency and non-emergency radio use.

Course Content

This course is designed to allow you to get familiar with handheld and stationary two-way radio communication equipment, including classroom as well as practical field instruction. Course topics include the following:

  • Communication styles and model
  • Communications policies and procedures
  • Rules of good radio communications
  • Radio operations and etiquette
  • Communication barriers
  • Effective listening
  • Emergency and non-emergency radio use
  • Radio maintenance
  • Communications exercise

Note: This two-way radio communications seminar is not meant to replace any existing two-way radio procedure currently in use at your workplace.

Prerequisites and PPE

You don’t need to complete any other courses or have any prior experience to enroll in this course. You also don’t need to bring along any personal protective equipment (PPE).
