Summary

This is our classroom-based 2-day Alberta government-certified course in asbestos worker health and safety available monthly at SCS.

Asbestos removal work involves a lot of risk because of the level of health hazards of asbestos on workers. To be certified to safely work in asbestos abatement, workers need to take a course that covers specific information required by the Alberta government.

Course Content

The course combines theory and hands-on exercises to teach you the skills you need to work safely around asbestos and in asbestos removal. This is so critical to learn correctly, as doing it wrong can lead to deadly results.

The class time includes theory, videos, and hands-on demonstrations of asbestos safety skills, so you will leave our course able to perform removal of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) safely and efficiently.

Course topics include the following:

  • Asbestos types, properties, friability, uses
  • Health hazards
  • Legislation
  • Abatement methods
  • Abatement procedures
  • Personal protective equipment, including respirators
  • Sampling (air and bulk) and analysis
  • Other hazards

Prerequisites and PPE

You don’t need to complete any other courses or have any prior experience to enroll in this course. You also don’t need to bring along any personal protective equipment (PPE).

Note: All courses require you to have government-issued photo ID.

The course starts at 8:00 am
